Build a bundle with an index that works

A bundle is not a merge. It needs a cover, an index naming every document and the page it starts on, bookmarks so a reader can move around it, and usually numbers running through the whole thing. The part that is easy to get wrong is keeping all of that working at once: the usual way of stamping numbers onto a finished PDF rewrites it and takes the links and bookmarks with it, so the index you built stops going anywhere. Here the numbers are drawn onto the pages after the links and the outline are on them, and all three survive. Every file is opened, changed and saved by your own browser. Nothing is uploaded to a server, nothing is stored, and no account is needed.

• A cover page with the title, who prepared it and the date
• An index with the real page numbers, every row a live link, running onto a second page rather than stopping at the bottom of the first
• A bookmark per document, in the reader's sidebar
• Continuous numbering over the finished bundle, cover and index included
• Rename any document for the index, reorder them, or leave one out without removing it
• The page numbers are shown before you build it, and they are the same ones that get printed
