Redact a title deed before sharing it

A deed proves what the property is and also carries who the parties are and where they live. This removes the second part and brings the file down to a size that will send.

• Names and addresses are removed from the file, not covered with a box.
• Survey numbers and boundaries stay, because those are the point.
• Both steps run here, with nothing uploaded at either.

What to remove and what to keep

Whoever asked for the deed wanted the property description: the survey number, the extent, the boundaries and the chain of title. What they did not need is the parties' residential addresses, their identity numbers and their contact details, all of which a deed carries in full and all of which are useful to somebody impersonating a seller.

The removal is real. A rectangle drawn over an address leaves the address in the file underneath, where selecting the text brings it straight back, and that failure is invisible because the page looks exactly right. Characters are taken out of the page content here and the mark is drawn afterwards.

Why size is in the same job

A deed is a long scanned document and routinely runs to many megabytes, which is more than most registry portals and most mail servers will take. Doing both steps in one run means there is no window where an unredacted original and a large redacted copy sit in the same folder under similar names.

The compression aims at the number rather than at a preset and keeps the largest result that fits, so survey numbers stay readable, and the size it reached is reported rather than assumed. Open the saved copy and check the figures, or run the deed through the Compress tool, which draws page one on screen before anything is saved.

Change the number in the instruction if the portal asks for something tighter. It is a sentence, and the plan shows you what it read before it runs. Nothing about the deed is uploaded at either step, and nothing survives the tab closing.

Will the registration details still be readable?

Yes. Only the detail types you choose are removed, and you see the compressed result before saving.

Can I redact a handwritten endorsement?

Only text is removed as text. Draw over a handwritten region in the redaction tool directly.
