Prepare a loan application pack

A lender wants one file, in order, and usually wants it protected. This joins the documents in the order you set and sets a password on the result rather than on the parts.

Order first, password last

Merging and then protecting is the only order that works. Encrypt the parts first and nothing can join them without being unlocked again, and the plan will tell you so instead of failing halfway through: a step that has to come before the password is moved in front of it and the reason is printed against the step.

The merge keeps what a merge should keep. Bookmarks survive, so a pack of eight documents still has eight entries in the sidebar, and page order is exactly the order you put the files in rather than alphabetical by file name.

The password is never written down

It is typed into a masked field when the plan runs. It is not read out of the instruction, not stored in a saved workflow, and not included when an instruction is shared as a link. Passwords spoken aloud into the microphone are refused for the same reason, and the microphone stands down entirely while that field has focus.

What you get is a normal encrypted PDF. Any reader will ask for the password and open it; there is nothing proprietary about the result and nothing that needs this site to read it later.

Every step runs in the tab. A loan pack is statements, returns and identity documents in one place, which is the single worst file to upload to a free merger and the one most often uploaded.

Check the finished pack before you send it. A lender rejecting a pack for a missing page costs a week, and the cheapest moment to notice is while the file is still open in front of you.

Can I change the order after adding files?

Yes, before the plan runs. The order in the list is the order in the finished pack.

What if the lender cannot open it?

It is standard PDF encryption. If they have trouble, send an unprotected copy of the same merge rather than converting it.
