Have a person check the doses

A machine translation of discharge instructions is a reading aid, and doses, frequencies and dates are the part of it nobody should act on unchecked. Two things can go wrong and they compound: a recogniser can lose a digit out of a printed figure, and a translation can carry a number across into a sentence that reads fluently and says something different.

So the figures are the first thing to check against the paper, and the translation is best used as the thing you hand to a nurse or a pharmacist to confirm rather than as the instruction itself. Everything else on the page, the advice, the warning signs and the follow-up arrangements, is where the translation earns its place.

Not every output can show the script

The typefaces built into the PDF format cover Latin text and nothing else, so a correct Hindi translation drawn into a PDF comes out as rows of question marks. So the plan writes the translation as plain text, which carries every script, rather than producing a PDF nobody can read. The Translate tool is where the other formats live: it offers Word as well, and withholds the PDF with the reason printed beside it for exactly this.

Plain text carries every script. Print from those if a paper copy is what the person needs, which in this case it usually is.

The translation runs on a model in your browser, which is slower than a service and is precisely why nothing is uploaded. The panel shows how far through it is, and a run can be stopped with whatever has been translated kept.
