Compare two drafts of the same contract

The other side sent back a revised draft and did not track the changes. This puts the two versions side by side, word by word, and writes a report you can circulate.

Two answers this refuses to give

It does not try to line up an inserted page. Page one is compared with page one and page two with page two, all the way down. A comparison that guesses at alignment produces a tidy, confident and incorrect answer, and on a contract that is worse than no comparison, so the limitation is printed on the panel instead of being hidden by clever matching.

And a page with nothing readable on it is reported as not compared. Calling it unchanged would be the single most expensive mistake this could make: a scanned page inserted into a digital draft is exactly where a change hides.

The report is the part you send

A comparison you can only see on screen is half a tool. The saved report opens with a summary page that says how many pages were compared, how many differ and what was not read, and then gives one page per change with the two versions side by side and the differences marked at a third opacity so the original text is still legible underneath.

Punctuation at the ends of words is ignored so a full stop moving does not read as a change, but a hyphen inside a word is not: sub-contractor and subcontractor are a real difference and are reported as one.

Both documents stay on this device. That matters more for a draft than for almost anything else here: an unsigned contract posted to a comparison service is an unsigned contract sitting on somebody else's disk, and the usual reason to compare two drafts is that the deal is not done yet.

Do both files have to be PDFs?

Yes. Convert a Word draft to PDF first, or compare the two Word files in Word itself.

Is there a page limit?

Very long pages are read up to a limit and the page says so rather than reporting the rest as unchanged.
