Highlight the termination clause in a contract

The clause everyone goes looking for is the one about getting out. This reads the document, including a scanned signed copy, and marks the termination and notice wording where it sits on the page.

A mark on the page beats a quotation in a chat window

For reading, a quoted clause is enough. For circulating, it is not: the person you send it to wants to see the clause where it lives, with the sentence before it and the definitions around it. A highlight on the page carries that context and a copied paragraph throws it away.

So this produces a document rather than an answer. Open it, send it on, print it, put it in a bundle; it behaves like any other PDF because it is one.

Why recognition has to come first

Marking up a scan means knowing where the words are, and on a scanned page nothing does until it has been read. Recognition runs before the marking for that reason, and the plan shows you that it is going to, rather than quietly producing a document with nothing marked on it.

A page that carries its own text layer skips almost all of that work: the words are taken off the page as the producer wrote them, which is more accurate than any recogniser, and the marking goes straight on.

The plan shows both steps before either runs, and says which tool is doing what. A recognised page and a page that carried its own text are not the same quality of input, and knowing which one you have is the difference between trusting the marking and checking it against the original.

Nothing is uploaded at either step, which is the reason to do this here rather than in whichever free marker-up comes top of the search results. An agreement under negotiation is not a document to hand to a stranger in exchange for a highlight.

Can I change what it looks for?

Yes. The instruction is a sentence you can edit before the plan runs, so ask it to highlight whatever wording you are after.

Does the highlight survive in other readers?

Yes. It is a standard PDF annotation, so Acrobat, Preview and Chrome all show it.
